Our church Youth Group has a unique opportunity to help a "buddy church" in Africa that needs fresh water. Give them a hand to make a real difference.
The Aloebusta Methodist Youth for World Awareness Group is engaged in a unique program with friends at our "buddy church" Neuago Methodist Ministries.Together we are raising funds to guarantee that every Neuago farmer has access to water to irrigate the crops on their family farms. For each twenty soywax candles we sell, we can purchase and deliver one high-efficiency handpump that will make the difference between crop failure, winter survival and some extra produce to sell in the market.
This program is the result of our first "buddy exchange" in which Donny and Marie McAllister traveled to Neuago from their family farm in northeast Aloebusta County. "We were amazed to learn just how critical the water situation was in Neuago," said Marie. "We came home and talked with Mom and Dad." said Donny, "They told us about these new high-efficiency hand pumps and wondered if they would be useful."
After a bit of on-line research and a few e-mails to Aloebusta Pumps and Irrigation Systems, a plan was hatched. Working with the kids at Neuago Ministry, they came up with the plan. Our Youth Group will raise funds to buy the pumps for Neuago farmers by selling soywax candles and the Youth Group in Nueago will help the farmers install the pumps and keep them running smoothly.
"It's a great idea," George McAllister said. "I'm proud of my kids. As a soybean farmer here in Iowa, it's great to know that doing something here in Iowa can help the Neuago village farmers half a world away."
